"A 'BE-WITCHING' Tale of Thora"
The Island of Thora is surrounded by a huge body of water. The only way to get to the Island is to take the ‘Captains Island Ferry Boat’ or by taking the ‘Thora Land Bridge’. The Thora Land Bridge tunnels under the very large body of water. Once on the Island you would discover its ‘BE-WITCHING’ beauty and a green forest of trees surrounding around on outside of the Island. As you would travel within the Island you would discover a huge lake in the center of the Island. In the warm weather you might even find someone taking a swim, or maybe a riding a pleasure boat on the lake, cruising about or just fishing for some relaxation.
Bernadette Thiesion and her brother Chester Thiesion are the owners of The Island of Thora. They live in the Main Homestead Cottage, which would be on the west side of Thora Lake. They also own all the cottages surrounding the lake and the ones within the forest also. Bernadette Thiesion is the mother of 23-old Pansy, and adopted 11-year old daughter, named Autumn. Chester Thiesions’ wife, Matty had passed away four years ago; leaving him with a 9-year old boy, named Benedict, who misbehaves sometimes.
Pansy Thiesion sat up suddenly in her bed, wondering if she might have heard a strange noise. She listened for a while and decided that the Homestead Cottage was making its eerie night noises as usual. No sooner than when she had lain back down, she heard a faint knock on her bedroom door. She watched as her knob on her bedroom door moved and was slowly opening. She sat up and starred, not yet knowing who was at her door.
“Sweet Pansy” Uncle Chester said, “I heard a noise as I was coming up the cottage stairs, and wanted to be sure you were okay.” Chester sat on the side of her bed.
Pansy answered, “Yes, Uncle, I’m fine.”
“It is quite windy this evening, maybe some of the forest tree limbs were brushing against the cottage… guess I should have Benjamin, the caretaker trim some of the trees near the cottage windows’ tomorrow.” he said.
Chester stood up, kissed Pansy on her forehead and started to leave, when he suddenly stopped. “Oh… I almost forgot…”
Pansy smiled at him and asked, “Yes, Uncle what is it?”
“Your mom mentioned to me earlier this evening that she had hired a new governess for Autumn and my undeserving son, Benedict.” Chester stated.
Pansy said, “Come on Uncle Chester, it is not all totally Benedict’s fault that he is always misbehaving… after all he’s probably still going through a hard time about his mother passing away four years ago. Try to give him some time, so his emotions can heal.”
“What’s the new governess’s name, by the way?” she asked.
Chester answered, “Allie, she’s 24-years old. She’ll be here this Tuesday afternoon. I’ve been told that she was really great with children.” he continued, “And as far as my undeserving son goes… forget it … he’s already told me to my face that he hates me!” He turned and started to leave again … “Nite.”
Pansy laid there thinking after her uncle left… ‘Sure would be nice to have a new friend my age around here again.’ She dozed off.
Finally Tuesday had arrived; Pansy was so excited about meeting Allie… that she decided she’d better go for a walk to help calm her nerves. It felt good to walk in the sunshine; she decided to follow the trail to Thora Lake. She sat on a rock near the lake and just gazed out over the lake… thinking how lovely everything here was.
When she arrived back at their Homestead Cottage... she noticed that her cousin Benedict was outside swinging from one of the swings that was hanging from one of the forest trees.
Pansy said, “Hello there Benedict, having fun swinging?”
Benedict starred at Pansy, slowed his swing to a stop. He just sat on the wooden swing, moving his feet about on the ground.
“Your new governess is coming this afternoon; I heard she is very fond of children.” Pansy said. “You’ll like her Benedict; she is really nice and good with children!”
Benedict snapped back, “I DON’T WANT A GOVERNESS; she will be sorry she came here!! I told my father that too!! … I’d wish that Aunt Bernadette never asked for her to come!” he added, “I don’t need any one but my mom watching over me!”
Pansy said, “Benedict … your mom passed on four years ago!”
“Well I talk to her every single day… she loves me so much, that she told me she couldn’t leave this world without me ... you know that she told me that she is a ;’WITCH’ don’t you Aunt Pansy?” Benedict stated.
Pansy just turned away and walked towards the front door to the cottage.
Benedict screamed, “There are ghosts in the cottage too... they have told me many things and showed me all the secrets of this old Homestead Cottage!” Benedictt then started laughing loudly… and he ran to the back of the cottage and disappeared from sight.
Pansy walked in to the sitting room to where her mom was … her mom was reading a book.
“Hello, my sweet daughter.” Bernadette said. “Pansy, what’s wrong dear?”
Pansy ran to her mother’s arms and cried. “It’s just Benedict, he’s just impossible, mother!”
“Honey, he’ll come around … he just needs lots of love.” Bernadette said.
They were sitting on the couch still talking when there was a knock at the front door. Bernadette rose and answered the door, with Pansy right behind her.
“Hello, I’m Allie.” You must be Mrs. Thiesion.”
“Why yes, I am; ... Allie, and a warm welcome to our enchanting cottage home, this is my daughter Pansy… and please dear you may call me Bernadette. Please come in with me to the sitting room and I will tell you about the children.”
After Bernadette and Allie talked for awhile, Pansy showed Allie to where her bedroom would be.
“Your room is two doors down from mine Allie, so if you need anything please don’t hesitate to ask me for anything.” Pansy said. “I must warn you that Benedict is still missing his mom. I hope he won’t be too much trouble for you.”
“Thank you for the warm welcome, I don’t feel as nervous as I did”. Allie answered, “I feel so sorry for Benedict; I know how it is not to have a mother. Thank you for telling me Pansy. I’m sure you and I will be such good friends!”
After super Allie went to her room, to unpack more and organize herself for the school lessons for the children for the next day. When she was finished she went to bed early, dreaming of her first day working with the children. She had just closed her eyes when Benedict flung open her bedroom door screaming for her to LEAVE and go back to where she came from!
Benedict was caught by Bernadette.
“Now Benedict you apologize to Allie; that was not a very nice thing to say to her.” Bernadette stated.
“NO!! I WON’T” Benedict yelled.
Chester came up behind Benedict and grabbed his son’s sleeve and told him to go downstairs with him; Now…. His father walked him down the cottage stairs to the sitting room. They were going to have a father and son talk!!
“I’m so sorry Allie, I really thought that Benedict would be more favorable to you … he’s just morning over the lost of him mom still.” Bernadette said. “Please dear, try to get some sleep, and try not to let what Benedict said bother you too much.”
Allie locked her door … her dreams were a little uneasy… and tearful.
When she woke she was told that Benedict was going to be with his father for half of the day, and that he would be missing his morning class. Allie was so relieved, that she felt a little guiltily for feeling relieved. This gave her the chance to get to know Autumn; … Allie immediately connected with this sweet little shy girl.
Allie was helping Autumn study her spelling words … When Benedict marched in and said that his father said he had to make an apology to her. He said he was sorry … without too much meaning. Allie asked Autumn to write a short story about a warm summers day … when she finished studying her spelling words.
“Allie….” Benedict asked sweetly, “Would you like to come and see my mom’s picture … with me?”
He reached for her hand and led her out of the room. Benedict took Allie to the third floor, “This is my mom’s room he said, and on the wall is a picture of her.” He smiled up at his mom… and winked.
Allie said, “Why, Benedict, she’s so beautiful, your mom, is so very pretty... I can see why you love her so!”
Benedict smiled warmly at his mom’s picture … then glanced at Allie. “My mom is a ‘WITCH’ … do you believe me Allie?” he teased. “You believe me don’t you … Allie!” he said again, with a little be-witching laugh.
“Surely, you can’t mean that … there are no such things as Witches!” Allie said.
As Allie was glancing at Benedict’s mom’s picture; the picture started to glow and his mom, Matty stepped out of the picture. Allie fell to the floor and all turned black and she passed out. Benedict was laughing loudly … at what had happened!
When Allie came too, she didn’t know where she was and who she was … she heard someone yell … see I told you she was a ‘WITCH’ … somehow Allie was no longer in the future, but in the past … last thing she could remember was being in Benedict’s mother’s room. She was locked in some kind of jail cell, and she was commended to be put to death.
Benedict, who was still in the future … was laughing along with his mother … “I hated her right from the start mother… we did it again … didn’t we mother!”
She replied, “Yes we did my little teddy bear … now remember, no one will remember anything about Allie ... her days in the past are numbered… won’t be long before she’ll be history. Come to me often … my little child … so I may hold you in my arms … She held him securely and tightly … as though she was to never let him go, ever, again!!
